By: Jamil al-Jadabi (almotamar.net) - SANA’A- Head of Information Sector at the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) Abdu al-Janadi said the vote-counting results of the local council elections will be announced on Monday.
Al-Janadi affirmed the SCER is keen to announce the results depending on the reports it receives from electoral committees.
The preliminary results show that the GPC won 333 seats out of 425 seats at the level of governorates, which is equivalent to 80 percent. The Islah Party got 34 seats; independent candidates 25; Yemeni Socialist Party 13; and one candidate from the Green Social Party.
Al-Thawra newspaper quoted yesterday Mohammed al-Sayyani, head of the Technical Affairs at the SCER, as saying the preliminary results show that 4,802 GPC candidates won in the local election councils at the level of districts, while the Islah Party got 742 seats. The Socialist Party won 160 seats; independent candidates 540; Nasserite Unionist 25; Popular Forces Federation 8; Ba’ath National Party 2; Haq Party 2; and Ba’ath Arab Party one seat.
Around 1,612 candidates vied for the local councils at the level of governorates, and 18,000 candidates at the level of districts.
