B y: almotamar.net - SANA’A- The U.S. National Democratic Institute (NDI) country representative Robin Madrid described the presidential and local council elections held on 20 September as a major step, adding the results of the presidential elections were great in spite of complaints on the part of the opposition parties.
Madrid called on the opposition to feel proud of the serious contest in which they took part. “Yemen can pride itself on becoming the first Arab state to carry out this democratic experience,” she said.
Madrid made it clear that one of the tasks of the coming phase is to continue establishing parties until they become real. The opposition parties have to take important steps, and that there were mistakes in their election campaigns as well, she noted.
Admiring the Joint Meeting Parties bloc, Madrid pointed out that there are several complications for the JMP.
She appreciated the role of security in maintaining security and peace during the election process.
