In this context the General Secretariat of the General People’s Congress (GPC) denounced in its statement Tuesday the threat against editor in chief of 26 September newspaper Ali Hessian Al-Shatir of physical liquidation by Member of Parliament sheikh Hamid Abdullah al-Ahmar after it had received a statement from the newspaper.
The GPC statement considered the threat as indicating narrow-mindedness in dealing with the other and resorting to force does not go in line with the spirit of democracy and atmospheres of pluralism Yemen is experiencing.
The GPC statement pointed out that it confirms insistence of some elements on continuing in their violation of order and law and going too far in aggression on others freedoms. It called on political parties and organizations and civil society organizations to denounce these uncivilized practices, according to the statement. The statement also demanded the concerned parties to shoulder their responsibility with regard to dealing seriously with this threat and to take all legal measures that provide protection for press and journalists.
