By: almotamar.net - SANA'A- President Ali Abdullah Saleh today ordered the government to work during the coming phase towards building the institutional construction of the local authority in accordance with a strategic perspective, and helping it [local authority] achieve local development and offer services to citizens.
Saleh stressed on the importance of decreasing the development gap between urban and rural areas, improving the local authority law, and reviewing the current administrative division.
Addressing the elected local councils members, Saleh said, "The electoral process was characterized by freedom, democracy, transparency, and testimony of the international and local observers who monitored the elections closely. We can say we are going in the right direction, towards fixing and improving our democratic experience, which is now enhanced by electing the secretaries general of the local councils and heads of specialized committees."
Saleh went on to say that local councils performed their duties successfully. "The achievements realized in the field of administrative construction, as well as the training and awareness programs for the local authority leaderships represent today a solid ground from which the new local councils start to continue working in an environment that is better than before," Saleh noted.
"In the meetings you are holding nowadays, you are inaugurating a new phase of development. There are big responsibilities for you to take, and fulfilling your duties rest on a number of factors, most prominent of which being your best selection of the local councils' administrative board. You have to work as teamwork, away from partisan loyalties, with the national interest as a priority," Saleh told members of the local councils.
