Almotamar.net - SANA’A- Head of the American National Democratic Institute (NDI), Robin Madrid, called on Yemenis whether in power or opposition or civil society organizations to keep on dialog which is the best way to success, and that Yemenis can reach the goal although they criticize one another. Madrid considered the democratic experience in Yemen was exciting as she came to know new friends from whom she got experience.
In a farewell celebration organized by Women Journalists without Constraints, Madrid thanked all those who criticized her seriously during her work in the NDI, but that didn’t affect her performance as she continued working with all political parties and civil society organizations in the country, without being biased in favor of one party or another. She called on political parties to make the complementary elections and parliamentary elections of 2009 successful through dialog and talks.
Madrid promised to come back Yemen in a personal visit next January and contact political parties and civil society organizations. I couldn’t work anywhere else and preferred Yemen as I love Yemen and Yemenis, she said.
Mohammed Abu Lohoum, head of the foreign affairs at the General People’s Congress (GPC), said Madrid used to criticize the GPC members when she met them because “she cared for democracy and that she has left kind fingerprints.”
Calling for improving the democratic experience, Abu Lohoum wished the relation with the opposition would be good, because what will come needs the cooperation of everyone.
Assistant secretary general of the Islah Party praised Madrid as she devoted herself to work, and that she helped Yemen and contributed to the development of democracy in Yemen.
