Almotamar.net - SANA'A- President Ali Abdullah Saleh today asked for taking quick procedures to allocate Tareq military camp's land for establishing a public park in addition to a number of public utilities for the governorate of Aden and extending a university hospital.
During his visit to Tareq and Badr military camps, the President also issued orders to quickly establish an alterative military camp as the land will be part of the free zone.
On the other hand, President Saleh inaugurated the activities of the local councils that began today after the September elections.
During his meeting with a number of secretaries general of local councils in the governorates of Aden, Abyan and Lahj at the Presidential Palace, Saleh Said, "This meeting is to inaugurate the activities of the local councils throughout governorates. We do congratulate local council members for winning people's confidence, wishing them all success."
Saleh also called on the local council members to fulfill their electoral programs through development and service projects and encourage investment in order to create job opportunities and push the development process forward.
"The local authority is a unique experience that has succeeded over the past years, and we wish it will achieve better success during the coming phase. The failure of the local councils is a failure for all and disappointment for those who put their confidence in the elected local council members," Saleh added.
Saleh told the local council members to shoulder responsibilities, and that centralization begins to fade whenever the local authority gains success. "Local authorities are considered local governments in the literal sense of the word. We call them local authorities but they are local governments," he noted.
According to Saleh, by 2010 the centralization authority will be responsible only for sovereignty-related issues that have something to do with the national security of the country, while local-related issues are the tasks of local authorities.
"You have to care much for development and service projects, and improve cities, protect the environment. It is observed that since the elections of last September till now the election posters have not been removed. All forms of election publicity should be removed form walls, schools, streets," Saleh pointed out.
He urged them to work as one team as they belong to one country, regardless of their political affiliations.
"One of our responsibilities in the coming phase is to fight against corruption, unemployment, and enhance the development process."
Saleh further noted that it is important to work to get rid of the totalitarian and colonialist regimes.
