almotamar.net - Thirteen Sudanese people were injured Sunday in the middle of the capital Khartoum as a result of successive explosions in a truck carrying large quantities of ammunition. Brigadier General Othman Mohammed al-Aghbash attributed the explosions to what he described as concussions inside the truck that was passing by the general headquarters of armed forces.
The area nearby the explosion site was evacuated while air traffic movement returned at the Khartoum airport after a halt continued for hours.
Earlier news had mentioned that explosions happened in three trucks loaded with artillery projectiles and palls of smoke were seen up the sky of the explosion site.
Ambulance cars were seen gathering at the site of the explosion and security men surrounded the area as sounds of explosion were heard over two hours after the first explosion.
A navigation source said the authorities closed Khartoum airport as a precautionary measure as the explosion occurred in an area not very far from ammunition stores.
Al-Jazeera Channel had earlier reported a security source as saying the cause of the explosion is due to the heat of the weather.
