Almotamar.net - The person accused of intentionally setting fire to worshippers in a mosque in Ammran last Friday said he participated in taking injured worshippers to hospital and accompanied his father, of one of the victims of his crime, who was carried to hospital among 8 other persons whose case was serious and 22 others before he was arrested.
Security director of Amran governorate Fadhl al-Qawsi said the accused Ahmed al-Shoumi confessed of setting ablaze 30 worshippers in the mosque of al-Amiri, the district of Al-Sawda in the governorate of Amran and that his confessions were gathered in an interrogation conducted with him by the governorate security authorities.
Al-Qawsi quoted the accused as saying he had taken fuel from his house that is nearby the mosque and carried it to the mosque where he splashed it on worshippers before setting fire to them and then he fled the place after locking the mosque’s doors. He said al-Shoumi admitted he had participated in offering help to the injured along with the people of the village and accompanied his father to the hospital in Amran and then escaped to the mountains of Iyal Yazid outside the city of Amran.
The Yemeni news agency quoted director of Amran security his saying “We traced the criminal through interrogation in the village and then pursued him to the mountainous area where he fled and then arrested him.” The security official affirmed that the accused person will be medically examined to be sure about his allegation that he is psychologically sick.
Al-Shoumi was caught last Saturday after it was certain he is linked to the incident of burning the worshippers while they were performing their prays of Friday and the injury of thirty of them among them 8 persons suffering serious injuries.
The Yemen minister of health Dr Abdulkarim Yahya Rasie yesterday visited the injured persons at Amran and a hospital in Sana’a hospital where they are under treatment of their injuries.
