Almotamar.net - Yemen's Information Ministry affirmed Thursday the importance of providing correct knowledge among the Yemeni public opinion on the truthfulness of the freedom of expression and the freedom of the press as practiced by the many official, private and partisan newspapers, taking into consideration that the citizens follow up regularly newspapers issues without any censorship or restraints.

The ministry added the citizens realize that some newspapers publish different subjects of opinion and news stories contrary to the fact and violate banned things mentioned in the press law and nevertheless no measures are taken against them but in cases the citizen himself would complain regarding some published subjects against their dignity and rights.

Source at the ministry of information said the ministry responds with full trust to applications to establish newspapers and the proof on that is the large number of newspapers representing political parties and organisations. The sides or persons that did not provide conditions required in the law bear the responsibility for delaying procedures for issuing those newspapers.

As for press websites the sources clarified that licensing them requires similar dealings so that their owners are fully responsible for what is published on that sites. It is not proper in any country that a press website belonging to a certain newspaper to be established without notifying the concerned authorities about the editor in chief of that website, its cadre and site and the like of statements required by the law.

Regarding television information broadcasting the source said it has its special law regarding the investment of added service or the general transmission, adding that the ministry of communications and information technology has the right to stop any media transmission surprising the citizen on his phone without obtaining a license for that otherwise it will become chaotic situation. The companies established to offer telephone services will change to information and political institutions.

The source also affirmed that the freedom of developing personal sites is permitted and it is the right of their owners but when that is associated with aggression on others freedoms and interference in their affairs then there must through a system protecting all. He elaborated that news websites have not followed the right course and practices violation of valid laws. They promoted for lies against the public interest and assailed those who are defending the homeland and its stability through confronting the gangs of sabotage and terror in some areas of Saada governorate.

The source said the ministry of information is looking forward to holding a plenary meting with the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate to discuss these matters and to reach to convictions in favour of freedom of the press and in interest of the profession.

Almotamar Net - Doctors use the word “crisis” to describe the point at which a patient either starts to recover or dies. President George W. Bush’s Iraqi patient now seems to have reached that point. Most commentators appear to think that Bush’s latest prescription – a surge of 20,000 additional troops to suppress the militias in Baghdad – will, at best, merely postpone the inevitable death of his dream of a democratic Iraq. Yet as “Battle of Baghdad” begins, factors beyond Bush’s control and not of his making (at least not intentionally) may just save Iraq from its doom.
