Almotamar Net - Seven Spanish tourists and two Yemenis died and eight others were injured in a terrorist attack near the Temple of Balqis historical site in Mareb governorate on Monday Almotamar.net - Seven Spanish tourists and two Yemenis died and eight others were injured in a terrorist attack near the Temple of Balqis historical site in Mareb governorate on Monday
A source at the Yemeni interior ministry said four passenger cars carrying thirteen tourists bearing Spanish nationality came under a terrorist attack with a car bomb; the car bomb was driven by a suicide terrorist at the time the tourists were going out of the historical Balqis Temple in Mareb at 5:30 pm today.
The source added the criminal incident killed seven Spaniard tourists and two Yemenis who were drivers and guides in addition to the injury of other six tourists and two other Yemeni citizens. Some of the injured were taken to Mareb hospital while others were taken for treatment in a hospital in Sana'a.
The interior ministry source said preliminary information indicates the attacker is from al-Qaeda organisation. The source said Yemeni security apparatuses are chasing all terrorist elements that are behind that cowardly terrorist act to arrest them and send them to court. He added the security authorities will deal with those elements as they used to deal with the terrorist elements that committed terrorist acts which damaged security and stability of Yemen and harmed its national economy and interests and reputation.

In April, the US state department cautioned American citizens against travelling to Yemen.
"Last December, a lone gunman opened fire outside the US embassy compound during the early morning hours.
In February last year, 23 convicts including known associates of al-Qaeda escaped from a high-security prison in the capital, Sana'a.
Among those who escaped were individuals imprisoned for their roles in the bombing of the US navy destroyer USS Cole in the Yemeni port of Aden in 2000, which killed 17 sailors, and the 2002 attack on the French oil tanker Limburg.
Since the start of this year, the Yemeni government has been battling al-Houthi rebels in and around the northern governorate of Saada. While foreigners have not been targeted, hundreds of soldiers and civilians have been killed in the violence.
