Almotamar.net - A World Bank team headed by Ms Aisha Fouda, in charge of education at the WB, announced offering $20 million to support "the quick track" initiative
for education in Yemen.
Announcement on offering the grant came in a meeting Wednesday between the Education Minister Abdul-Salam al-Jawfi and the WB team headed by Ms Fouda currently visiting Yemen in addition to representatives for donors from Britain and Holland. The meeting discussed and assessed the project for developing the basic education and the extent of successes in this regard particularly regarding the education infrastructure and qualitative additions the project offered for expansion of basic education.
They also discussed the quick track initiative in its second phase and qualifying it for the third phase provided that work is to begin for the programme from 21 of this month until July 2008.
Al-Jawfi also held talks with the education section's advisor in British Cooperation Ministry Swift on aspects of educational
cooperation between the two countries and means of developing them.
They reviewed educational activities and programs in Yemen financed by Britain.
Al-Jawfi highlighted the British support for Yemen in its efforts for developing of primary and secondary education, being part of the sides cooperation.
On his part, Mr Swift expressed his country's willingness to maintain support for primary and secondary education as for meeting requirements of the society and goals of the 3rd millennium for development
