almotamar.net - Local sources in Thamar governorate on Thursday affirmed that some unidentified sides carry our operation of defacing old religious features in large areas in Wisab, Thamar governorate.

Member of the local council in Wisab Ahmed Abulghaith al-Bazili told almotamar.net that unknown parties use some societies and organisations as means for them to demolish old mosques and remove religious and historical features of those mosques which were built more than one thousand years ago. Those mosques are characterized by unique architectural style and contain decorations and inscriptions as well as domes and all that under pretext of expansion and repairs.
Al-Bazili pointed out that those operations are carried out in many areas in Wisab by persons receiving support from unidentified charitable societies and organisations. Among those are four mosques in villages of Sabha, al-Mihdad and al-Madi which were built according to a unique Islamic architectural style dating back to the 7th Hegira century.

He indicated that the mosques built on ruins of the old mosques do not rise to the required standard and according to ordinary specifications although there are other spacious mosques nearby those demolished and it was possible to build expansions in them and keep the old mosques as they were.

Al-Bazili called on the concerned authorities to stop that campaign that affected many mosques and religious features in the Yemeni rural areas.
