Almotamar.net - Under the motto of "In Advocacy & Support of the Woman Issues and Development" the Yemeni Women Union (YWU) observes the International Women's Day (IWD) and its Central Council will hold its 4th session and declaration of the preparatory committee for the elections of the YWU and approving it in Sana'a on 5-6 March 2008.

A statement issued Wednesday by the YWU, received by almotamar.net mentioned that the general conference of the union would witness the declaration of the preparatory committee for the election of the Yemeni Women Union that will be approved at a workshop where there will be a review of the guide directory for the elections and to be discussed by the members of the central council.

The statement pointed out that the p[reparatory committee will form subcommittees: Higher Preparatory Committee, Supervising Committee, Document Preparation Committee, Financial Committee, Information Committee, Organisation Committee and the Secretariat.

The statement added that the first day of the ceremony includes speeches of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, the Chairwoman of the YWU Ramziya al-Eryany, the Minister of Human Rights Dr Amat al-Razzaq Ali and National Alliance for Safe Maternity. That would be followed by discussing and approval of the YWU strategy and discussion and approval of the preparatory committee. The second day will witness discussion of the general report on achievements of the Union and presentation of the financial and administrative report and review of the Union's strategic plan for the period 2008-2012.

Almotamar Net - Doctors use the word “crisis” to describe the point at which a patient either starts to recover or dies. President George W. Bush’s Iraqi patient now seems to have reached that point. Most commentators appear to think that Bush’s latest prescription – a surge of 20,000 additional troops to suppress the militias in Baghdad – will, at best, merely postpone the inevitable death of his dream of a democratic Iraq. Yet as “Battle of Baghdad” begins, factors beyond Bush’s control and not of his making (at least not intentionally) may just save Iraq from its doom.
