almotamar.net - – Money retrieved in the course of legal investigation over the last seven months amounts to two billion riyals, Dr. Ali Al-A'awash, Public Property General Attorney, said.
"Some 506 cases have been brought by the Public Property Prosecution in different provinces, most of which are related to pillage of money, seizure of public property, violations, briberies, and favoritism," Al-A'awash said.
He indicated that these cases were investigated and more than two billion riylas have been retrieved from the corrupt. Some cases were referred to the Public Property Court.
Official statistics prepared by the Public Property Prosecution point out that Aden province comes on the second position after the Capital City whose statistics have not finalized yet. the number of cases in Aden reach 149, Lahj 91, Taiz 64, Hadhramout 61, Hodeidah 49, Say'oun 33, Abyan 14, Marib 17, Dhamar 13, Dhale' 11 and one case in Mahweet, Hajja, Raimah, and Sa'dah each.
He added that a new package of cases have come from the Property Prosecution's provincial offices. They are to be counted and investigated into soon.
Meanwhile, President of the Central Organization for Audit and Control (COCA) Abdullah Al-Sanafi stated that COCA has detected more than 182 corruption instances since the beginning of this year. "They have made Yemen incur about 1666000,000 riyals in loss.
"Those violations have been detected in different official authorities," he said. "The COCA is still studying files of three cases while 179 ones have been referred to the Public Property Prosecution." He said all cases are still under investigation and eleven ones are being examined by the court.
A COCA-issued report, a copy of which has been received by almotamar.net, shows that Yemen has incurred financial losses to the tune of 1,666,232,000 riyals as well as other physical damages due to the breaches.
According to the report, the violations have been detected in official authorities and their provincial offices as the Capital City, Hodeidah and Aden are in the lead in terms of corruption cases.
