Almotamar.net - Head of the Political Office of the General People’s Congress (GPC) Abdullah Ahmed Ghanim on Monday considered the large people’s processions took to the streets of the Yemen governorates as a people’s and national unanimity on elections of governors and support for the democracy approach, the people’s participation and the great achievements that Yemen made in various areas.
In his statement to almotamar.net on Monday the GPC leading member said those demonstrations are considered as popular and national contribution to support the process of election of governors as it is one of the principles of the GPC policy and its accomplishments under leadership of President Ali Abdullah Saleh for building the modern Yemeni state and its democratic approach.
Mr Ghanim said the mass rallies bear many indications and they come in celebration of the Democracy Day of April 27 of every year. It is the day when the first democratic parliamentary elections were held in 1993 after the establishment of the Yemeni unity. It will be the day when the upcoming parliamentary elections of 209 will be held.
Mr Ghanim also said the people’s marches in all Yemeni governorates also come in support of the democratic step of electing the governors of provinces as one of the GPC policy’s links and its electoral programmes, particularly the platform of the President. Governors elections aim to lay foundations of a local rule with large powers. He considered the mass rallies as affirmed that the call of some political parties (Joint Meeting Parties) for boycotting this process as a limited call and has no effect among the people.
