Almotamar.net - A number of local councils from the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) in Ibb governorate who participated in elections of governors on Saturday have expressed their pride in taking part in voting, deeming h experiment as a pioneering national step heading towards a local rule system with large powers.
In statements to almotamar.net on Saturday they supported the decision of electing governors as it represents a step leading to a local rule system.
Member of the local council of Yarim district from the Yemen Socialist Party (YSP) said " what pushed me to take part in these elections is my conviction that they are a national experiment and prioritization of the national interest to party interest despite of my approval of the JMP decision of boycotting them. But personally I am convinced to participate because my local affiliation, rather than my political affiliation, dictates on me to take part in them." He added those elections are a great step so that the law can be amended in future to have governors elected directly by the people.
A member of the local council of Al-Sayani district from the Yemeni Congregation for Reform (Islah) party said what pushed him to take part in the elections was that he was sure that the experiment was heading in the right direction and a transitional phase towards a large-powered local rule and a support for the election platform of the president of the republic.
Another Islah party member in the same district's local council said his participation in the elections was out of his belief that they would lead to larger people's participation in taking decisions and a local rule entertaining large authorities.
