Almotamar.net - Assistant Secretary General of the General People's Congress (GPC) for the Party's Organisation Affairs Sadeq Amin Abu Ras says the foundation of the GPC had greatly benefited the country politically at an early time and that has been confirmed in the achievement of Yemen's unity in 1990.
In an interview published by Al-Mithaq newspaper Monday Mr Abu Ras said the political situation in the south of the homeland was based on the totalitarian system and the one party. Multi-party system was then prohibited therefore the GPC became then the container that embraced all and was a breathing space for all parties.
He said all, with their different opinions, were meeting in the permanent committee of the GPC and each party used to express its opinion and orientations. That was a unique thing that contributed to enrichment of opinions and their variety for serving the national political work.
Mr Abu Ras considered that the success of President Ali Abdullah Saleh in then gathering the different trends in the framework of the GPC as evidence of his magnanimity and human characteristics. He added that those characteristics of the President enabled him to rule Yemen and helped him continue ruling it throughout thirty years of the revolution age.
