Almotamar.net - The French ambassador to Yemen Gilles Gauthier on Tuesday the stability of Yemen is necessary for its people and the world too and that stability would not be realised without development that needs a strong support from the more advanced countries in the world, among them the European countries.

In the celebration organised by the French embassy in Sana'a on the national day of France the ambassador Gauthier said the European countries and the European Commission is convinced of that and determined to increase their efforts for supporting Yemen despite of the economic circumstances.

He added that Yemen's relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council states are good and Europe estimates efforts of the region's countries and wishes they would lead to Yemen's integrity in their regional organisation.

The ambassador pointed out that in the recent months Yemen has been experiencing difficult circumstances in many fields because of rise in prices of food stuffs globally in addition to the terrorist attacks by parties following extremist ideas as well as the resumption of rebellion by some elements taking shield in mountains in the north of Yemen.

Mr Gauthier pointed out that for the past 14 years Yemen has been building its unity , state and economy as well as its democracy , the matters which the ambassador described as not easy challenges and praising efforts of president Ali Abdullah Saleh , the government , the state employees the majority party , the opposition and efforts of the people. He confirmed that in the year of 2009 Yemen would witness a new step on the road of democracy with the elections of April.

He added that the next year will witness the beginning of natural gas exportation from Balhaf and a first visit of the French President to Yemen. Ambassador Gauthier drew the attention that the relations of the two peoples and the countries are good for a long time and are in progress especially in investments, development, cooperation and culture.

The French ambassador welcomed the role played by Total company in oil; production through the management of the giant gas project and said it invests large funds in Yemen , which is a signal of its optimism in the future of Yemen.

On his part the Yemeni Minister of Electricity Awadh al-Saqtari wished for France security and stability, saying that Yemen's relations with France are historical and enhanced more after the 26 September revolution when France recognised the republican regime in Yemen, hailing France's role in supporting the unity and stability of Yemen as well as its support for the democratic pursuit and political plurality

Almotamar Net - Doctors use the word “crisis” to describe the point at which a patient either starts to recover or dies. President George W. Bush’s Iraqi patient now seems to have reached that point. Most commentators appear to think that Bush’s latest prescription – a surge of 20,000 additional troops to suppress the militias in Baghdad – will, at best, merely postpone the inevitable death of his dream of a democratic Iraq. Yet as “Battle of Baghdad” begins, factors beyond Bush’s control and not of his making (at least not intentionally) may just save Iraq from its doom.
