Almotamar.net - The International Foundation for election Systems (IFES) warned Wednesday from consequences of the delay in appointing members of the Supreme Commission for Election and Referendum in Yemen and its impact on development of the democratic process in Yemen.
IFES said continuation of the delay in dialogue means the Yemeni parliament would enter into a vacation period and then the vacation of Ramadan and that would lead to the need of pressure or the relinquishing of taking a certain measure in the electoral process.
In a press release obtained by almotamar.net IFES indicated that the process of revising electors tables and modifying them is supposed to begin on 26 August 2008 and the parliament would not return to convene but after this date. The Resident Executive Manager of IFES Peter Williams has said this delay may lead to reducing the opportunities of the Yemeni citizens for registering for the first time or even updating their statements.
He said in case of continuation of the delay the process of registration and reviewing electors tables might not be possible and that would place the process of developing the democratic process in real danger.
