Almotamar.net - Yemen on Thursday witnessed nationwide celebrations of speech and masses festivals on the occasion of the elapse of 30 years since President Ali Abdullah Saleh was elected President of Yemen on 17 July 1978.

Participants in the festivals of Thursday affirmed that this day is an important stage in the history of the people of modern Yemen and a start point towards building the modern Yemeni state which the President has laid its pillars and led the march of the4 homeland towards the bright future.

The participants in the celebrations considered this day as a genuine expression of the free will of the people by the election of a president for the first time by representatives of the people and by that for Yemen to embody the independence of its national decision.
In the governorate of Mareb a massive speech and popular festival was held Thursday on this occasion. The celebration was inaugurated with a speech by the governor Naji Ali al-Zaidi said this day should be a day for loyalty and recognition for the President as it is a period distinguished in the history of contemporary Yemen. He said the day of the President election opened to Yemen the gates of peace, stability and security as well as progress and development.

A speech and artistic festival was held in Saada governorate on Thursday included many artistic activities and national songs on the occasion. The governor of Saada Mohammed Hassan Manaa reviewed the accomplishments achieved in the governorate under the era of the President particularly the reunification of Yemen.

In the celebration in the governorate of Lahj the governor Muhsin Ali Al-Naqib pointed out the achievements and the historical stages that have been realised throughout thirty years. He said that the wisdom of the President is embodied in his saying that " tackling the problems of democracy is by more democracy as democracy is an experienced historic choice that enhances all other choices , among them are the unity, political pluralism and the freedom of opinion"

Almotamar Net - Doctors use the word “crisis” to describe the point at which a patient either starts to recover or dies. President George W. Bush’s Iraqi patient now seems to have reached that point. Most commentators appear to think that Bush’s latest prescription – a surge of 20,000 additional troops to suppress the militias in Baghdad – will, at best, merely postpone the inevitable death of his dream of a democratic Iraq. Yet as “Battle of Baghdad” begins, factors beyond Bush’s control and not of his making (at least not intentionally) may just save Iraq from its doom.
