Almotamar.net - Assistant Secretary General of the General People's Congress (GPC) Sadeq Ameen Abu Ras affirmed Saturday that the GPC is the product of thinking of the national movement that had begun since the revolution of 1948 and then the revolution of 26 September. He added that all Presidents, beginning from al-Sallal, were thinking of the subject of the GPC but the determination did not reach the final stage until President Ali Abdullah Saleh assumed power and began to think about and implement it.
Abu Ras also pointed out that the GPC was representing different intellectual orientations when partisan was prohibited and the meeting of the dialogue committee was an embodiment of that. He has also reviewed the first stages of the foundation of the GPC and the method of carrying out the project of referendum on the form of the national charter, pointing out that opinions of all were taken into consideration even of those who were practicing sabotage in the central regions of the country.
In a symposium organised by al-Mithaq Institute BU Ras said the elections that were held for the membership of the GPC were held in a democratic manner that demonstrated the size of all the political forces then in the country. He added that the GPC had depended moderateness and was not extremist or hardliner.
Director of Al-Mithaq Institute Mohammed Hussein al-Aidarous said in an address at the symposium that almost more than 26 years there was no danger threatening Yemen more than the division and there was no worry the national forces in Yemen were enduring greater than the disintegration of its national forces until this country got the wise leadership of president Ali Abdullah Saleh who has led all on the road of unifying the thought and the will under the umbrella of the GPC on the 24th of August 1982.
