Almotamar.net - Head of the Information Office at the General People's Congress (GC) Tareq al-Shamy renewed his accusation Saturday to the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) of attempting to hinder the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled in Yemen in April 2009.
Al-Shamy said the attempt of the JMP to hinder the elections is because it realizes that its popularity has dwindled very much, pointing out that leaderships of the JMP worked for marginalising their parties and leaderships. He also reminded of the parliament postponement of its sessions for weeks to give opportunity to the parties of the JMP to present name of their members in the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) but they procrastinated and that made the parliament to take its decision of rejecting the electoral amendments and the choice of the members of the SCER.
Al-Shamy said the SCER that accomplished the previous elections was formed in accordance to a political accord and it was normal it would continue so that there would be no delay of the elections, confirming there are constitutional dates obliging to all and any political party has no right to hinder. Al-Shamy considered , in a statement to Aljazeera.net , demands of the JMP for the release of those it calls as prisoners is an attempt to force the secondary issues within the framework of the electoral process and pointed out to clear presidential directives for the release of those not accused of criminal cases.
