Almotamar.net - The Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) on Monday extended invitation to the European Commission and the Union to take part in get acquainted with and observe the process of different procedures related to the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled in Yemen in April 2009.
The invitation came when the member of the SCER in charge of external relations Dr Jaafar Basaleh received Monday the director of the European Commission (EC) Office in Yemen. Basaleh discussed with the European official aspects of bilateral cooperation of the SCER and the EC in the electoral field.
The meeting also reviewed the steps taken by the SCER in preparation for revising and correcting voter tables in preparation for holding the parliamentary elections in 2009.
SCER called last Wednesday those wishing to take par in the process of observation from those sides, from embassies of Arab and friendly countries and the international organisations working in Yemen to send their applications to the SCER's sector for civil society organisations in a time of two weeks.
The Commission received ten requests for participation in that process from local civil organisations until last Saturday whiles the sector for external relations received 19 requests for international observers.
On his part the member of the SCER, chairman of the sector for civil society organisations Mohammed al-Saqqaf Balghaith said in a statement to almotamar.net that some civil society organisations that came with requests for observation of the process of revising and correcting voter tables were still meeting the conditions requested from them in line with the law of general elections and referendum in this regard.
