Almotamar.net - Almotamar.net- Head of the organizational office, the member of the General People’s Congress (GPC) called on political parties and organizations to set aside a proportion of seats especially for women to compete for in the upcoming local elections.
News Yemen site quoted Ahmed al-Zuhairi as saying that,” We wish there as a code of honor signed by the political parties that is specified for the woman to compete for in the local elections, indicating the GPC endeavors to grant the woman, as candidates, a percentage of 15%.”
Mr. al-Zuhairi affirmed the GPC has completed 90% of the process of presenting its candidates and the number amounted to six thousand nominees throughout the country. The candidates have been selected in accordance with the GPC’s rules of procedure and the selection was made by the party organizations in the governorates, districts and the center. He also pointed out that the number of women applied to nomination all over the country until last Tuesday amounted to 36 women: 21 women from the GPC,, 11 independent candidates, three women from the Yemen Socialist party and one representing the Sons of Yemen League.
