Almotamar Net - Director General of International Observation at the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) in Yemen Ahmed al-Hakimi said his office received on Monday three requests from international observers so that their  number amounted to 22 international observers for watching the phase of revising and correcting voter tables 2008  while local observers  requests reached at around 19 thousands.

Almotamar.net - Director General of International Observation at the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) in Yemen Ahmed al-Hakimi said his office received on Monday three requests from international observers so that their number amounted to 22 international observers for watching the phase of revising and correcting voter tables 2008 while local observers ' requests reached at around 19 thousands.

In a statement to almotamar.net the SCER official clarified that the foreign observers represent the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES).

On the other hand the head of civil society organisations sector , member of the SCER Mohammed al-Saqqaf Balghaith told almotamar.net on Sunday the number of local civil organist ions requested to observe revising and amending voter tables amounted to 22 organisations offering 19 thousand observers.

On the other hand member of the SCER, the head of external relations Dr Jafar Basaleh presented to the official in charge of wise governance at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sana'a an invitation for the UNDP to take part in the observation and overseeing the progress of electoral process for he two stages of revising and amending voter tables 2008 and that of the parliamentary elections in 2009.

In his meeting with the UN official on Monday Dr Basaleh discussed aspects of bilateral cooperation especially concerning the international electoral project of assistance and support for the Yemeni parliamentary elections in 2009.

He also talked about preparations going on by the SCER for carrying out the process of revising and amending voter tables in prelude to holding these elections.

The SCER had on 8 of this month called on the political parties and organisations, civil society organisations concerned with democracy and international organisations working in Yemen to send their requests to the sector of civil society organisations sector at the SCER in a period of time not exceeding two weeks.

Almotamar Net - Doctors use the word “crisis” to describe the point at which a patient either starts to recover or dies. President George W. Bush’s Iraqi patient now seems to have reached that point. Most commentators appear to think that Bush’s latest prescription – a surge of 20,000 additional troops to suppress the militias in Baghdad – will, at best, merely postpone the inevitable death of his dream of a democratic Iraq. Yet as “Battle of Baghdad” begins, factors beyond Bush’s control and not of his making (at least not intentionally) may just save Iraq from its doom.
