Yemen is taking part in the consultative meeting of the Arab countries overlooking the Red Sea held in Cairo today. The meeting considers the phenomenon of sea piracy and armed robbery against ships offshore Somali coasts in the international waters of the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Sea.

Before leaving Sana'a on Wednesday for Cairo the Foreign Undersecretary for Arab, African and Asian Affairs , the head of the Yemeni delegation to the meeting ambassador Ali Mohammed al-Ayashi said the meeting will present a number of ideas and suggestions on the major premises of the meeting including the security, legal and economic dimensions of the piracy phenomenon.

Al-Ayashi also mentioned that the meeting called for by Egypt comes in continuation of the efforts exerted by Yemen and a number of the region's countries, pointing out that the meeting seeks to crystallize a unified Arab stand of the countries on the Red Sea to prevent transfer of the phenomenon to the Red Sea. He said the meeting would emphasise that protection of the Red Sea security is the responsibility of the countries overlooking it.

Almotamar Net - Doctors use the word “crisis” to describe the point at which a patient either starts to recover or dies. President George W. Bush’s Iraqi patient now seems to have reached that point. Most commentators appear to think that Bush’s latest prescription – a surge of 20,000 additional troops to suppress the militias in Baghdad – will, at best, merely postpone the inevitable death of his dream of a democratic Iraq. Yet as “Battle of Baghdad” begins, factors beyond Bush’s control and not of his making (at least not intentionally) may just save Iraq from its doom.
