almotamar.net - Deputy Chairman of the Supreme National Anti-Corruption Commission SNACC Dr Balqis Abuisbaa called Sunday on various media institutions to put pressure for approval of a draft law on the right to access to information of which she said it would provide a better climate for the job of the media and the civil society. She affirmed meanwhile keenness of the SNACC on supporting and backing up approval of the draft law.
In her response on Sunday to questions by media people participating in a training course on press reportage, organized in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme UNDP and Female Journalists Forum, Abuisbaa said the Commission views the media and civil society as essential partners in anticorruption. She pointed out that all that has been published in the press is considered report to the Commission subjected to study and consequently investigation in case it actually contained what refers to existence of corruption.
Ms Abuisbaa also said the Commission received up until the end of the year 2008 305 report and complaints, indicating that 200 of them were not in the specialization of the Commission and only 5 cases the Commission referred to general prosecution in addition to finishing a number of issues in the area of biddings and tenders and the remainder reports were still under consideration by the Commission.
