Attariq - SANAA-Attariq newspaper said, according to information it obtained from sources it says as they are reliable, that Faisal Bin Shamlan, the presidential candidate for the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) had confiscated a number of properties and nationalized them. He also pillaged some of them, such as the National Organization for Services, Investments of Bahabishi and A’moudi, Seiyoun Cinema, As-Salam Hotel, Qasr Al-Qubba Hotel owned by Al Alkaf, Printing and Publishing firms of Al-Taleea’ House and Al-Rai Al-A’am.

He newspaper added in its latest issue Shamlan had during his job as chairman of the popular committee to which he was appointed in coordination with Ali Salem al-Biedh and Abdullah al-Ashtal had arrested a number of Hadramout governorate cadre of academics and appointed a number of his relatives during his chairmanship of the higher popular committee, namely, Farouq Uthman Bin Shamlan, as first secretary of the governorate, Fayez Uthman Bin Shamlan as official of the town of Seiyoun, Muhsin Ahmed Bin Shamlan as security official of the governorate and Qais Bin al-Abd al-Tamimy as organization official in Seiyoun.

The newspaper also mentioned that Bin Shamlan was before the crisis of 1994 summer war one of the most active persons calling for the establishment of a city state in Hadramout and held a meeting in his house with Ali Salem al-Biedh and a group of Hadramout inhabitants in order to prepare for the establishment of that state during that period. For the purpose of covering up there was unanimity on appointing him governor of Hadramout, while Dr Farah Bin Ghanim used to always advise him t be with the unity.

The paper also mentioned that there was a certain relationship between him and the British occupation authorities in the south of Yemen. He was appointed executive manager to manage Aden oil refinery following the government had received it then from the British who recommended his appointment in that post. Mr. Anees Hasan Yahya, who was then secretary of the party’s economic office had proposed to the politburo to out him from administration of the refinery of Aden but Ali Salem al-Biedg was defending him strongly and thus he stayed in that post until 1986.

According to Attariq newspaper, Bin Shamlan was appointed minister of Public Works and Transports in the formation of the first government after independence and was deposed immediately because he was not a member of the Popular Front and Abubakr al-Attas was appointed to the post instead of him.

After he was ousted from the ministry of Public Works, the newspaper says, Bin Shamlan was appointed executive chairman of the State Establishment of Electricity under proposal by Salem Rabie Ali and Ali Salem al-Biedh, though such appointment would not have been approved by the party’s politburo, especially by Ali Saleh Ubad who assailed Bin Shamlan in the 14 October newspaper, accusing him of coming to sabotage the establishment of electricity. Then he was sacked after a reclusion for many months. The paper says Bin Shamlan was never appointed in the governments of Mohammed Ali Haithm, Ali Nasser Mohammed and Abdulfattah Ismael could never like him and used to describe him as from the Muslim Brotherhood Group.
