Mohammed Al-Haydari - SANAA-A number of woman candidates for the opposition parties grouped in the Joint Meeting Parties bloc (JMP) promised to defeat other candidates in the local and presidential elections scheduled on the 20th of this month.
Woman candidates said in pares statements to almotamar.net the women whether they are nominees or electors would stand as one rank in the face of the opposition parties and their candidates in the local and presidential elections. They indicated they will exert all their effort to inflict defeat on opposition parties candidates especially after the letting down practiced on them by the JMP opposition and their refusal to grant them their political rights and let them to nominate to the local elections.
Fatima Ahmed, Yemeni lady, a candidate to the local elections competed by three males , one from the YSP and two other independents for the local council Dhalie governorate said she is more enthusiastic in competing with the male candidates and much confident she will win in the elections. She said her trust of winning depends on her platform and wide-range relations with the simple people in addition to her political experience extending for three decades. Fatima is chairwoman f the woman sector of the GPC in Yafie district, Dhalie governorate and member of the Union of Yemen Women. She has focused her platform on concerns and issues of the people there, mainly services and health projects and the building of schools and service centers.
The women seem this time to be angry I response to desertion by opposition parties of the JMP towards the woman and abandonment in supporting them for gaining their political rights, especially the stance of the Congregation for Reform party (Islah) that did not nominate a woman to the coming local elections.
Ms Houriyah Mashoor, deputy chairman of the Women National Committee told almotamar.net she and her colleagues in the organizations of civil society interested in woman condition and her political issues have decided to intensify their efforts to implement a package of programs on election awareness directed to voter women. She said he goal is t enlighten them on the importance of supporting their sister candidates in elections and to cast their votes to the woman regardless of her political affiliation.
Ms Hadiyah is one of 102 woman candidates to the local councils and among total candidates of 19400 of which the GPC got 5260 candidates and next to it the Islah party that got 3143 and effused to nominate a woman to the elections. Observers think there will be low turnout in the woman participation in the elections due to political stances adopted by some leaderships of opposition parties, particularly the Islah party that refused the principle o women participation in the political field and their nomination in elections. Ms Hadiyah told almotamar.net she has nominated to elections out of her desire to carry out a fair vying and stabilization of the democratic system and to motivate her colleagues to take part in the election process. She is vying in the elections in the name of the GPC along with four men in her local constituency 59 in the area of Jabal Habashi, 300 km to the south of Sana’a. Her rivals in elections are one from the JMP and three independents. She says she relies in her victory on her party which encourages women in electoral participation and she along with her colleagues in the party exerts great efforts to attract electors. She pledges to offer services to her area’s people in case of her victory.
