Almotamar.net - Sana’a-a statement by the Civilian Block in Yemen on Sunday condemned what it has described as horrible and fearful attacks on woman sit-inners at the ‘Change Square’ in the capital , committed on Saturday by soldiers from the 1st Armoured Division and members of the ‘Order Committee’.
The statement mentioned that the attacks also included the two woman activists Huda al-Attas and Arwa Othman, members of the Civilian Block.
In a press statement issued by its coordination committee, and reported by Marebpress website, the Block stressed the right of sit-inners to organize themselves and escalate their peaceful protests in the ways and forms they choose by themselves without interference by Order committees and soldiers of the 1st Armoured Division. The Block also considered imposing any conditions by anyone at the square as an aggression on the right of the sit-inners and come under unacceptable violations.
The Block’s statement considered the attacks which took place on Saturday as dangerous escalating result of previous violations against both male and female participants in the sit-ins.
The Block affirmed that these attacks are considered dangerous crimes necessitating immediate accountability of those who ordered and them and the implementers. It has also held those in charge, directly and indirectly, legally and ethically responsible for them and the subsequent results.
The statement called on all human rights organisations active in the square to activate their roles in the work for stopping those violations and their results urgently, in protection of sit-inners and all their human rights in full.
The statement also demanded leaders of the Joint Meeting Parties and officials of the 1st Armoured Division to act immediately to stop all forms of violations and attacks against the participants in the sit-in at the ‘Change Square’.
