Almotamar.net - The humanitarian crisis in Yemen is the largest in the Middle East, which needs about US$592 million to implement an emergency humanitarian response plan 2014, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen Johannes Van Der Klaauw has said.
During his meeting with local media in Sana'a, the UN official made clear that 47 percent of Yemen's population is in need of emergency humanitarian services.
"One of two people in Yemen are suffering from malnutrition and food insecurity and they are in need of urgent humanitarian help", Johannes said.
"About 13 million Yemenis are unable to access to clean and safe drinking water and adequate sanitation. Moreover, about 10 million Yemenis are unable to get enough food".
Johannes pointed out that more than a million children are suffering from a serve shortage of food and medicine.
"We have a plane to help about 7.6 million in Yemen through supporting them with necessary humanitarian aid, including food, health, water and sanitation, shelter for refugees and migrants and other vulnerable groups as children and women", he said.
The UN official described Yemen as a fragile state, saying it suffers from extreme poverty and still suffers from internally displaced people, where 300,000 people have displaced due to internal conflicts, adding that about 250,000 refugees coming from the horn of Africa are in need of aid.
"The deteriorating situation in Yemen will be put before the Friends of Yemen's meeting to be held on April 29 in London", he said.
"Humanitarian and issues and situation in Yemen must be addressed in the meeting unless they will negativity affect on economic reforms, development and political process in the country", he added.

The airstrikes targeted the areas of Malahiz and Husama in Dhahir district, and areas Thuban, Masahif and Sdad in Bakim district of northern Saada province.
