SANA'A - At a Ramadan breakfast reception on this eve, President Ali Abdullah Saleh declared that he is going to put into practice his election program especially fighting corruption and illegal enrichment.
Addressing a host of invitees including clerics, social personalities, businessmen and pressmen, President Saleh promised to help the poor and combat corruption and the corrupt. He noted that there will various projects some of which need long time while others need short time to implement.
"Yemenis embodied democracy at the Sept 20 elections and the people said yes to security, stability and development. People were in favor of the General People Congress (GPC) because it is the party of tolerance and moderation and people have experienced the GPC's rule for many years," he stated.
On the occasion, President Saleh unveiled ongoing negotiations with the USA and Canada to aid Yemen in making use of nuclear power especially in electricity generation.
He said that an agreement had been reached with the USA and Canada to enhance Yemen's electricity through nuclear power. The first phase of the project aims to generate some 20 thousand mega watts.
President Saleh expected this strategic project to have a significant effect as it meets locals' electricity needs by introducing alternative solutions that facilitate access to power.
On the other hand, President Saleh met in Monday's afternoon Yemeni clerics and scholars who congratulated him on the advent of Ramadan, revolution anniversaries, the success of the presidential and local council elections, and his victory.
They said that People's will is part of God's will and that God aided President Saleh in the past and is going to aid him in the future to achieve yemenis' expectations and ambitions. The clerics and scholars said that President Saleh has made a great history for Yemen and failed all evil bids that aimed to tear the country.
"The gathering together of clerics and scholars from different corners of Yemen is one of the blessed Reunification's fruits and is attributed to the maker of Reunification and achiever of its victories," they said.
President Saleh exchanged congratulations with the clerics and scholars, stressing their vital role in guidance, enlightenment and dissemination of knowledge and education.
