By: Abdul-Karim Al-Nahari - SANA'A � Yemen has qualified for the final stages of the poster competition for the achievement of the millennium goals and poverty alleviation. The competition is organized by the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR). Yemen has come into the competition with four research techniques proposed by the General Authority for Agricultural Research and Guidance (GAARG).
Dr. Ismail Moharram, President of the GAARG said GFAR informed them of their accepting Yemen from among different developed and developing countries, into the competition finals to vie for the International Award for Agricultural Research, 2006.
The first three winning researches are to be revealed on the sideline of the International Conference of Agricultural Research to be held this Nov in the Indian Capital, New Delhi.
The GAARG's contribution revolves around four research techniques: development of wheat with the participation of farmers in middle highlands of Yemen; fighting and managing the tree of muskit and making it environment-friendly; development and manufacturing a flailing machine for five crops that improves productivity, decreases loss and betters farmers' income in the middle highlands of Yemen; and introduction of the biogas.
