almotamar.net - SANAA- A Yemeni high-ranking military source said Monday there is coordination between Yemen and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states in taking part in military manoeuvres of �al-Jazeera shield� to be held by military forces from Arab Gulf states in the Sultanate of Oman late in December.

I a statement to almotamar.net the source welcomed the invitation to Yemen to take part in the military manoeuvres, affirming Yemen would not hesitate in responding to the request to participate in the manoeuvres. He has clarified coordination and contacts are going on between the Yemeni defense ministry and its counterparts in the GCC states to define an official response to the invitation and said the decision will be taken in this week, pointing out that will be followed with meeting of the concerned ministers in Yemen and the GCC states to discuss the nature and size of the military manoeuvres.
The source has meanwhile deemed the invitation to taking part as a big step on the process of enhancing the bonds of cooperation and partnership and its development in various areas, especially in the field of training and qualification.
Almotamar.net had earlier mentioned that Chief of General Staff general Ahmed Ali al- Ashwal received the invitation from his Omani counterpart Ahmed bin Harith al-Nabhani.
Called the "al-Jazeera shield", the manoeuvres would be carried out on Omani land by military forces from Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain in addition to military units from Yemen.
No exact date was given for the war games and it was not clear whether forces from Western countries would take part.
