almotamar.net - SANAA- the General Committee of the General People�s Congress (GPC) approved in its Thursday meeting the concepts on basis of which heads of executive authority in the governorates can be elected.
A source at the committee told almotamar.net that the approved option is to have the governors and heads of districts been elected by an electing body composed of the recently elected members of the local authority added to them the present governors and heads of districts. That came at the General Committee� listening to report presented by the committee on amendments of the local authority law containing proposals on drawing up a transitional law for the election of governors and heads of districts, the conditions and available options as well as reconsidering the financial resources of the local authority and transfer all authorities to it in addition to determination of its relationship with the central authority.
The sources elaborated that the meeting prepared the visions for the special committee with the addition of the assistant secretary general for the sector of intellect and culture, chairman of the parliamentary bloc Sultan al-Barakani and minister of justice to prepare the legal formula as soon as possible in preparation for the government endorsement of the amendments and consultation of the Shoura council before sending it to the parliament.
The meeting appreciated the efforts exerted by the special committee in determination and studying of the options for amendments of the law of the local authority in the manner compatible with the election platform of president of the republic, the leader of the GPC Ali Abdullah Saleh on enhancement of the local rule and expansion of its authorities.
