Almotamar.net - SANA'A- President Ali Abdullah Saleh today demanded donor conference be more positive than that of 2002 held in Paris, adding Yemen benefited only 20 percent from Paris conference.
In the opening session of the conference held today in London, Saleh affirmed Yemen sticks to continue the process of inclusive reforms.
"Yemen began the process of reforms early. Since the unification, it [Yemen] took the democratic path with regard to multi-party system, freedom of opinion and counter-opinion, freedom of press, respect of human rights, and participation of women," Saleh said.
According to Saleh, Yemen is to request to join the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative soon.
Saleh made it clear that Yemen held contested and genuine presidential and local council elections last September, not a play like those of what is called world third countries. "It was a real competition, with the testimony of international observers, and satellite channels," he added.
Saleh further noted that Yemen due to amend the local authority law, whereby governors and heads of districts are to be elected, and that an independent committee is to be formed to implement the financial liability law, another one for tender and bid law, and another for corruption law.
"Our security is yours. Yemen is part and parcel of gulf, and you have to lend us a helping hand. We hope we would integrate one anther," Saleh addressed gulf countries participating in the conference.
