Almotamar.net - SANA'A- Minster of Planning and International Cooperation Abdul-Karim al-Arhabi said London conference gathered USD 4.7 billion to support development in Yemen, affirming the conference has inaugurated a phase of real partnership between Yemen and Gulf Cooperative Council (GCC) states as well as international community, and that it [the conference] gave Yemen chances to overcome current problems.
In a press conference held today in London, al-Arhabi said the conference reviewed over two days the economic challenges Yemen is facing and the national reform agendas.
Al-Arhabi made it clear a meeting will be held next May to bring together Yeme and donor countries in order to discuss the economic development in Yemen. An other wider meeting will be held two years later to evaluate the situation, the minister added.
For his part, secretary-general of the GCC Abdul-Rahaman al-Attiya said the London conference achieved its goals.
"The conference was a chance for a dialog between donor countries and Yemen," he said.
Al-Attiyah made it clear the 4.7 billion in aid offered by donor countries will support Yemen's economy and achieve inclusive development.
"The pledges will help improve the quality of life for the people of Yemen by reducing the number of children who die needlessly every year, allow more young girls to go to school and give the economy a welcome injection of funds," Gareth Thomas, British international development minister, said.
