In a statement to almotamar.net, al-Asaadi said he is confident the verdict will be fair.
Al-Asaadi stated he republished the cartoons only to defend Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him, expressing wonder at the charges leveled at his newspaper.
A number of Yemeni journalists today condemned the verdict against al-Rai al-Aam, Yemen Observer and al-Hurriya newspapers. They staged a sit-in at the premises of the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate, saying the three newspapers didn't insult the Prophet Mohammed. They expressed concern over the lives of the workers in these three newspapers and Yemen's interests that might be affected by this case file.
