Aref Abu Hatem (almotamar.net) - SANA'A-Press and Publication Court today fined editor in chief of Yemen Observer English newspaper Mohammed al-Asaadi 5000,000 Yemeni riyals ($2 541) for reprinting cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, which provoked outrage among Muslims around the world earlier this year.
Al-Asaadi, who was kept in custody until he pays the fine, told almotamar.net that the verdict is unfair. "The charges were baseless. We did not abuse the Prophet, and consequently, the verdict is baseless," he said.
Almotamar.net came to know that a number of journalists have headed for the Courts of Appeal to file an appeal and demanded the immediate release of al-Asaadi.
