Israeli security personnel responded with tear gas and stun grenades. Skirmishes in other parts of the city have also broken out. Palestinians and the wider Arab World are protesting over Israeli construction work at Islams third holiest site the compound which contains the Dome of the Roc and the al-Aqsa mosque. The exchanges followed Fridays violence at the holy site.

Israeli police stormed the Noble Sanctuary compound and running battles with 3,000 Muslim worshippers ensued. A number of people on both sides of the divide were injured and police made 17 arrests. Israel says the work in no way threatens the mosque and is needed to replace a damaged bridge that leads to complex.
