Almotamar.net - The 3rd meeting activities of the Association of senates, shura and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab world (ASSECAA) began Monday in Sana'a.

Chairman of the Shura council, the chairman of the ASSECAA Abdulaziz Abdulghani said in his opening address that one of the important achievements of the association is the election of its secretary general and his assistants as well as providing requirements of the association work, including the staff and office, technical and communication supplies.

He indicated that one of the important priorities is deepening communication among the councils of the association fore the exchange of expertise and information for upgrading the councils performance.

Abdulghani mentioned the important aspects of success, namely the program of visits exchange among members of the councils, convening the consultative meeting of heads and representatives of member councils and the expansion in membership of the association and its relations with regional and international associations and parliaments. Mr. Abdulghani also stressed the importance of regular meetings of the association\s council and its conference as that is a basic factor in the activation of the ASSECAA work.

On the other hand the secretary general of the association presented the secretariat report on the association's activities in 2006 and results of the consultative meeting of the association in the Nigerian capital in June 2006. The report then proposed a number of activities to be held in the present year 2007.

After the opening meeting the ASSECAA held its first working session in which it formed some committees and their tasks pertaining the association program and to present their reports to the council and conference. The final working session this evening is to study reports of the committees and endorse the general budget and agenda of the second conference of the association to be held Tuesday.
