Almotamar.net - A security source has disclosed on Monday that Yemeni police managed to foil 11 attempts for smuggling drugs to neighbouring countries in the previous five months of this year and to arrest 30 traffickers.
The source told almotamar.net anti-drugs police seized around 5 tonnes of hashish and manufactured drugs that gangs tried to bring them into Yemen from abroad and then to smuggle them across Yemeni borders to a neighbouring country.
The source said the most recent smuggling operations that the police was able to seize were in late April at the coasts of Seiyhut. There the police seized around two tonnes of hashish and drugs manufactured in Iran and Pakistan with a six-person gang tried to smuggle it abroad.
According to the source Yemen has detained thirty persons involved in drug trafficking and other prohibited goods, among them five Somalis, one Iraqi and one Pakistani, adding that some of those involved were sent to court and others are still under interrogation.
