Google News Alerts - PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy discussed Monday 'cooperation in aerospace activities' with the 'the prospect' of Yemen's state carrier acquiring Airbus A350 aircraft, Sarkozy's spokesman said.
In an undated statement on its website, Yemenia says it has signed a preliminary agreement with the EADS unit to acquire six of the wide-bodied long-haul jets, with options for another four.
Talking to Agence France-Presse, the Elysee Palace spokesman David Martinon also said the two men discussed the Yemen liquefied natural gas (LNG) project operated by a consortium led by France's Total, which Sarkozy described was 'going well.'
Yemenia expects deliveries of its planes to start in 2012, but said the engine type has still to be selected.
