Almotamar.net - In the process of re-qualification of the legislative system in line with trends of economic reforms in Yemen, the parliamentary committee for trade and industry managed to produce an alternative draft law of external trade after a year-long study.

The new law put conditions concerning imported goods that they should be subject to standard specifications and quality control adopted in Yemen. It stipulates that production date of goods should be new for food and medicines and other goods that have a validity time and must be subject to examination to be sure of the correct trade statements. Regarding machines, means of transport and electric and electronic apparatuses and all commodities that need maintenance the law stipulated that the importer or the producing company must provide enough maintenance centres and spare parts.

The law also prevented importation of goods contradicting the Islamic law provisions, the national security, public health and environment.

In its amendments of the draft law presented by the government the parliamentary committee made the general federation of commercial and industry chambers partner of the ministry of trade and industry through coordination with the federation in preparing plans for development of external trade in accordance with statistics the state institutions present. The aim is to develop those plans to keep pace with economic, social, technical and information variables in the area of external trade.
