almotamar.net - An official in the State Authority for Development of Yemen's islands said Friday the Jebel al-Tair Island volcano was still in a condition of eruption and volcanic lava were still spewed from a crater in the middle of the island reaching a height of 13 metres.
Director of the authority Yahya al-Kaynaie who is presently in the island of Jebel al-Tair leading a team of 22 persons including a team of geologists, chemists and physicists and environmentalists in addition to a team for diving and another TV team, said there are six smoke openings in a straight line spewing vapours in the island and the volcano is in a condition of continuous activity and the volcanic lava is active from one crater in the middle of the island.
26september website quoted the government official as saying that a team from the Yemen TV and an environment team were able to enter the island in the Red Sea, west of Yemen and managed to shoot pictures of the island and the rising lava from the volcano. He said the diving team the Navy Force and coastal defence dived deep in waters around the island and pictured many of the areas affected by the volcano. The geologist, chemist and physics teams took samples of water and dad marine life and rocks to study and analyze them.
Al-Kaynaie said a medium quantity of fish and large and big dish and marine life were found scattered in different outer parts of the island.
The authority is presently preparing in cooperation with the local authority in Hudeida governorate a plan of emergency while a station for seismic observation is being installed Kamaran Island and preparing for installing other two stations in the islands of Zafir and Zubair in a few days in cooperation with the Earthquake Observation Centre in Thamar governorate.
Meanwhile the head of the Geological Survey Authority Dr Ismael al-Janad announced that the authority on Saturday organises a special seminar on the reality of the volcanic activity in Yemen and its future indicators attended by 20 specialists in geology from the Authority, Sana'a University and concerned parties in Yemen.
