Almotamar Net - Alwahdawi net almotamar.net - The journalists of "Al-Wohdawi", organ of the Nasserite Unionist People's Organization, a member of the Joint Meeting Parties, are still on strike in a bid to take their rights from the party, well-informed sources told almotamar.net.
Sultan Al-Atwani, the party's secretary general - chairman of the newspaper's board, did not fulfill his promise he had given at the last board's meeting to increase the entitlements of the newspaper's staff based on their qualifications and merits, the sources added.
Al-Atwani has told strikers that he is busy looking for the rights of the people during this period, threatening to sack them, replace them with new staff and deduct from their salaries should they continue the strike, the sources stated.
The same sources say the board's dealing with the staff is marked with favoritism and localism as the wages of some employees working for the secretary general were increased while the rest were deprived of pay rise. The sources cite the irony of the press technician who gets a pay higher than the editing secretary's.
A number of the newspaper's staff members have left their work following disputes with the party's leadership including deputy editor-in-chief Hamdi Al-Bukari.
