Almotamar.net - The Yemen vice-President (VP) Abid Rabu Mansour Hadi said Sunday the election of governors scheduled in Yemen on 17 May 2008 represents an important national stage in all of its dimensions.
Opening a seminar on future of partnership between the local authority and civil society organisations, the VP added the election of governors to be followed by election of heads of districts is the right way for combating corruption and limiting it. Meanwhile, he called on officials in the election staffs concerning the election of governors to keep away from courtesy in whatever form. Whether partisan or regional or tribal and not to be hasty in taking any decision before referring to documents, laws and rules.
He added that election of governors represents a qualitative transfer that will have an extraordinary echo. He clarified that the President�s election platform contains a package with democratic and reform objectives.
The VP said the meeting of the local authority with organisations of the civil society inaugurates an important and historic stage on the road of embodying the democratic pursuit.
On his part the Minister of Local Administration Abdulqader Hillal said the goal of meeting with civil society organisations is to inform them on preparation and steps for the election of governors. The Minister called on all the political forces to have the honour participating in election of governors and not to let down their masses or members.
On her part, the Chairwoman of the Yemeni Women Federation Ramziyah al-Eryany reviewed accomplishments of the civil society organisations network in building a partnership with the local authority.
There was also an address delivered for Oxfam organization that reviewed aspects of cooperation between it and organisations of civil society of Yemen.
