Almotamar.net - Breaking news) The presidential candidate of the Joint Meeiting Parties (JMP), Faisal Bin Shamlan revealed that he had received requests from leaders in the JMP to send letters under his signature to tradesmen abroad to ask them for financial aids for his campaign.
Bin Shamlan said he refused to send such letters, adding "We agreed that a candidate can send personal letters." But at the same time Bin Shamlan affirmed he doesn't know whether JMP's leaders have done something in this regard.
Meanwhile, Bin Shamlan affirmed he doesn't know about the negotiations between Yaseen Saeed Noman, Secretary General of the Socialist Party, and officials in the United Arab Emirates to support Bin Shamlan's campaign. The money and support which Noman would raise may come from non-official relations like businessmen, but not from official authorities, Bin Shamalan noted.
According to Bin Shamlan, the 25-million-riayl amount to run his campaign is not enough. In an interview published on Elaf website, he said they would increase such an amount. He even didn't rule out the possibility of sending letters to tradesmen and opening a donation account to support his campaign when the need arises.
In his first press statements, the Islah Party member Fatehi Al-Azab, who runs as an independent candidate , denied any agreement with leaders in the JMP and Islah Party. In an interview with the Yemen Observer newspaper, Al-Azab stated that he is not a stand-by candidate for the JMP.
Bin Shamlan, on whom the opposition insisted to run for presidency, sees that the Islah Party recommended Al-Azab as a standby "to be the third candidate".
Bin Shamlan further noted that "the law stipulates that three people, in minimum, are to be recommended to ensure the existence of elections. We are all humans."
Additionally, Bin Shamlan, as opposed to Al-Azab's statements, finds that it was the JMP, but not the Islah Party, that selected Al-Azab. "There is no any dialog or difference within the JMP regarding the selection of Al-Azab," he continued.
Bin Shamlan also expects the withdrawal of Al-Azab, the stand-by candidate, in the last days of the withdrawal period. But Al-Azab denies such news stating "No. I will never withdraw I shall continue the commission till the end."
