Almotamar Net - women candidates almotamar.net - Branches of the General People�s Congress (GPC) all over the governorates and districts continued today their internal electoral conferences to approve the GPC nominees for the local councils in preparation for submitting their files and their applications for nomination to the original committees of the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum in the districts and governorates. The procedure is in accordance with announcement of the Election Commission that approved beginning of candidacy for the local elections, starting from Saturday up to 21 August.


An official source at the technical committee told almotamar.net the GPC branches have on Friday almost completed naming the candidates in all the districts and governorates decided to present their applications to run for local elections according to the mechanism endorsed by the General Committee.
The motamar.net has learned from reliable sources in a number of the GPC in the governorates that discussions during the past days resulted in accepting a number of the GPC female candidates to run for local councils elections in governorates and districts, at a time discussion is continuous for approving another number.
Candidates from the political parties and independents in elections of local council compete for 340 seats and for the districts competition is for about seven thousand seats.
Abdulqawi al-Shamiri, the GPC deputy chairman of the media committee considered the GPC branches internal democratic mobility activity witnessed in the governorates and districts to select candidates as normal reflection of the extent of democratic practice inside the GPC, indicating in an exclusive statement to the motamar.net that embodiment of democracy inside he GPC from the summit to the base is what distinguishes the GPC from other political parties and organizations.
According preliminary statistics the GPC woman has occupied an acceptable proportion in the lists of competitors for nomination to local councils in the governorates and districts. The number of applicants in the governorate of Taiz amounted to seven women. In the governorate of Dhalie the motamar.net sources said that two women, one from the governorate council and the other from a district, were chosen and there is consultation about the possibility that two other candidates to apply. Head of the GPC branch in Abyan told almotamar.net that four GPC woman members were chosen. Two of them are for elections of the governorate council and the two others for the districts councils. Mohammed al-Dahbali said consultations are still going on for the possibility of proposing another woman for elections of the governorate council.
Official sources in the branch of Rima confirmed to al-motamar.net that four candidates applied for the districts councils. In Ibb and Baidhaa the sources affirmed approval of two candidates to run local elections for the GPC in districts councils of the two governorates. Ant there is possibility of presenting more than 5 women candidates in the governorate of Ibb. GPC woman sources in the branch of Aden told almotamar.net they have approved two candidates for the governorate local council and four others in the district of Mukalla.
The law stipulates that who nominates himself to membership of the local council must be Yemeni national and should not be less than 25 years old and he should be resident or has a fixed domicile in the administrative unit for which he nominates himself. It is a must hat his name is registered in the voter lists in the constituency of the administrative unit and should not be convicted for a crime of honor.
Elections of local councils are going to be held in coincidence with the presidential elections on 20 of next September.
