Almotamar Net - Justice Undersecretary for Financial and Administrative Affairs Abdulrahman al-Shahithi affirmed Saturday Yemens possession of integrated system of legislations pertaining to protection of intellectual property related to commercial judiciary. He pointed out those legislations are subject to continuous review in compatible with all international legislations and agreements. He pointed out those legislations are subject to continuous review in compatible with all international legislations and agreements.

In his opening on Saturday of the national workshop on intellectual property organised by the Ministry of Justice in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), and participation of forty judges from commercial courts, al-Shahithi said leadership of the judiciary authority was always keen to develop capacities of judges at commercial courts in the manner making them capable specialised judges to deal with different cases.

On her part, the deputy director at the office of technical assistance and building capacities of Arab countries at the WIPO, Ms Fatima Dayousi stressed the importance enhancement and development and updating intellectual property systems for taking advantage of them in supporting the scientific activity and technology.
Ms Dayousi reviewed aspects of cooperation that WIPO offered to Arab countries which she urged them to adopt a comprehensive strategy aimed at establishment of a system capable of achieving the largest possible quantity of economic, commercial and cultural laws through the best use of the intellectual property system.

Over two days the workshop discusses many topics on international protection of industrial intellectual property of Paris treaty and the agreement on aspects of commercial exchange of intellectual property and the international protection the right of author. The workshop also tackle subjects of piracy and forgery and their economic consequences, means and ways of spotting forgery of goods and the role of the private sector as well as implementation of intellectual property tights . The workshop will also discuss the Yemeni law on intellectual property and role of the Yemeni judiciary in carrying out rights of intellectual property.
